Sarsfield Barracks Billet Building Limerick
This project consisted of the upgrading and conversion of an existing building from office and billet use to billet use only, with accommodation for new recruits. In addition, a building formally used for transport was being converted mainly to billet use. As part of the Defence Forces programme to retain recruits, it was recognised that accommodation standards had to be raised from the cold Victorian building which existed, to a modern comfortable environment.
The buildings are fully dry lined to give U-values to current standards. Windows are double glazed and attic insulation was brought up to current standards.
The existing mechanical and electrical systems were stripped out and new systems installed. Heating had to link into a larger existing heating system whilst maintaining heat in adjacent areas through the 16 week winter contract period.
Overy + Associates designed the mechanical and electrical systems. The project came in on budget and is presently under construction and on programme with 16 week programme.
